TRAI Reaction: Voice-only plans from Jio, Airtel, and Vi will be less expensive; be aware of everything

TRAI Reaction : Jio, Airtel, and Vi are offering voice and SMS-only tariffs in accordance with the guidelines of India’s Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI). In December 2024, the TRAI instructed telecom companies to offer low-cost special tariff voucher and STV plans. TRAI had requested Jio, Airtel, and Vi to create low-cost plans, however the new tariffs that have been announced do not appear to be that economical. Now, the TRAI has reacted to Jio, Airtel, and Vi’s new voice and SMS only plans.

Let us inform you that Jio and Airtel just released two voice and SMS-only bundles apiece. At the same time, Vodafone Idea introduced a voice-only service. The TRAI has made a huge deal about all three firms’ new ambitions.

TRAI tweeted on its official social media site X

TRAI tweeted on its official social media site X, ‘It has come to the TRAI’s attention that several telecom firms have recently issued voice and SMS only packs. Companies must notify the TRAI of these new plans within seven working days of their introduction. The TRAI stated that the newly introduced new voucher plans will be changed in accordance with TRAI’s regulatory rules.

The main reason why Jio, Airtel, and Vi’s new voice-only plans have made headlines is their pricing. In fact, the TRAI had urged telecom providers to introduce low-cost plans to relieve customers of the burden of pricey recharge plans for mobile users. However, the voice-only plans that were released are rather expensive. In such a case, it is reasonable to expect that the prices of newly introduced plans will change following TRAI examination.

Jio, Airtel, and Vi Plans

Airtel has launched two voice-only contracts for users, priced at Rs 499 and Rs 1959. The Rs 499 plan has an 84-day validity period, whilst the Rs 1959 plan has 365 days.

Vodafone Idea has introduced a Rs 1460 plan for consumers. Customers benefit from a long validity period of 270 days.
