Following TRAI’s directive, Jio and Airtel have developed new voice-only recharge tariffs. Users will no longer have to pay for data that isn’t needed. This will benefit a sizable number of users.
Jio and Airtel released voice-only plans in accordance with TRAI orders. Such plans are available on both carriers’ websites, and they simply provide calling and SMS perks. This move would come as a huge comfort to those people, particularly 2G users, who did not require data but had to pay for it in the recharge plan. Still, crores of people in the country do not use mobile data.

TRAI issued the order last month
The telecom regulator had ordered all telecom companies to introduce voice-only recharge plans by December 23, 2024. The corporations were given one month to complete this. According to the directive, businesses will be required to provide such options in addition to their current recharge plans, which solely include voice calling and SMS. These plans are required for those who do not require data. Along with feature phone users, it will assist individuals who utilise two SIM cards.

Jio has introduced these plans
Jio announced two plans, Rs 458 and Rs 1,958, in response to TRAI guidelines. The Rs 458 plan is valid for an 84-day period. You will receive free unlimited calling and 1,000 free SMS across the country. This does not include any mobile data. The plan will include access to the Jio Cinema and Jio TV applications. Similarly, the Rs 1,958 package is available for 365 days. This includes free calling and up to 3,600 SMS. This also excludes mobile data.
Airtel launched these programs
Airtel, like Jio, has announced two voice-only plans. The firm is offering unlimited calling and 900 SMS for 84 days with the Rs 509 subscription. Simultaneously, the Rs 1,999 plan includes unlimited calling and 300 SMS with a one-year validity period.
