Google, the world’s top technology company, is aiming to improve its Find My Device app, which helps people find lost devices. Now, the app is getting a huge update that will allow users to find friends and family members who share their location. This new function, which was part of the March Android function Drop, is now being rolled out to more people, according to 9to5Google.
With this version of the update, Google hopes to simplify location monitoring by combining device and people tracking into a single app, making it easier to monitor loved ones and misplaced devices.

Find My Device can now track people.
Previously, Google Maps was the tool of choice for sharing and tracking the real-time positions of friends and family members. The Find My Device app now adds people tracking features, making it a direct competitor to Apple’s Find My app.
Users who have previously shared their location via Google Maps (including iOS users) will now appear on the Find My Device map interface. This connection allows you to locate both your misplaced phone and your loved ones from the same app.

New ‘People’ tab for easier monitoring
The Find My Device app now has a new “People” option that shows the location of contacts who have agreed to share their whereabouts with you.
Users can manage their location-sharing choices, which include:
- Adjusting the amount of time their position is visible to others.
- Viewing the list of contacts with whom they have disclosed their location.
- Stopping location sharing at any time.
This feature makes it easy to schedule meetings, check in on loved ones, and follow activity in real time—all from a single location.

Google’s Find My Device receives an Apple-style facelift
Google’s most recent update brings Find My Device more in line with Apple’s Find My app. The redesigned interface has a split-screen layout, with a map at the top and a list of devices or people below, depending on the tab you select.
This user-friendly style allows users to easily switch between tracking lost devices and checking shared locations, providing a more seamless user experience.
