Almora : Passenger bus plunges down canyon in Almora, killing 20 and injuring several others

Almora : A dreadful tragedy occurred in Kupi on the Pauri-Almora border when a bus fell into a gorge, killing 20 persons and injuring another 20. According to the Almora District Disaster Control Room, emergency personnel raced to the location to assist with rescue and relief efforts. The injured have been sent to local hospitals, as authorities examine the accident’s cause.

According to sources, the incident occurred while the bus carrying 46 passengers was traveling from Pauri district to Ramnagar. Local authorities have started an emergency rescue effort.

Rescue activities are ongoing in Pauri-Almora border

According to initial accounts, a bus from the Garhwal Motor Users fleet was involved in an accident near Kupai. Local police and the National Disaster Management Authority have raced to the scene to save lives. So far, 15 bodies have been retrieved from the gorge, and recovery activities are ongoing.

CM Dhami suspends ARTO personnel and announces compensation to victims.

In response to the disaster in Almora, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered the suspension of ARTO enforcement personnel in Pauri and Almora districts.

In addition, the Chief Minister offered compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the relatives of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for each injured victim. He has also directed the Commissioner of the Kumaon Division to initiate a magistrate-level investigation into the matter.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his concern over the unfortunate tragedy, saying, “I have received tremendously sad news regarding the casualties in the bus accident in Marchula, Almora district. I have asked the district administration to speed up the relief and rescue efforts. Local administration and SDRF workers are working hard to get the injured to the nearest health center. Instructions have also been provided to transport critically injured passengers if necessary.

Meanwhile, Kumaon Commissioner and Chief Secretary Deepak Rawat have left for the scene of the tragedy in Almora. Officials and staff from Nainital district have also been summoned to the scene. Paritosh Verma, Haldwani’s Sub-District Magistrate, is also on his way to the scene.
