Rohit Sharma has finally broken his silence on ‘opting to rest’ from the fifth India-Australia Test in Sydney. The India skipper chose to miss the match due to a run of poor form, which fuelled suspicion that his Test career was over. India hasn’t played another Test in over five months, and Rohit appeared to be running out of time at 38.
“I would say, ‘I stood down’. The conversation I had with the coach and selection was straightforward: I was unable to score runs with the bat. I’m not in top form. This is an important contest, and we must win. We couldn’t carry too many out-of-form guys. “They supported my decision, which was difficult for me to accept,” he remarked on Star Sports.
“The discussions process went on for quite some time. The choice was reached after arriving here. New Years Day came after Melbourne. On that particular day, I did not wish to inform the coach or selection of this. I tried but couldn’t score, thus it was best for me to withdraw from this match.”
