The Mumbai Indians select a star spinner to replace Allah Ghazanfar of Afghanistan

The Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions, indicated on Sunday that they had hired Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman to replace Allah Ghazanfar, who has been ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to injury. The 18-year-old Afghan spinner fractured the L4 vertebra, specifically the left pars interarticularis, and will miss the forthcoming Champions Trophy.

Ghazanfar’s injury occurred during Afghanistan’s recent visit of Zimbabwe.

Mumbai Indians wish Allah Ghazanfar a speedy recovery

In a news release, the Indian Foreign Office stated, “Mumbai Indians wish Ghazanfar a speedy recovery and a warm reception to Mujeeb into the #OneFamily.”

Mujeeb was one of the youngest players to ever represent Afghanistan, and he made an immediate impact, leading to an IPL debut at age 17.

Mujeeb has played almost 300 T20 (international and domestic) games, capturing 330 wickets with an economy of roughly 6.5.

The Mumbai Indians paid Rs 4.80 crore for the rising 18-year-old off-spinner Ghazanfar in the IPL mega auction.
