Suresh Raina mentioned that Rishabh Pant could soon wear CSK’s yellow colours

Suresh Raina : Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina hinted about Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant’s likely move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), claiming that the swashbuckling sensation met the legendary MS Dhoni in Delhi.

On Wednesday, each team published their player retention lists for the Indian Premier League (IPL). MS Dhoni was kept as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore under a new IPL regulation that allows franchises to keep Indian stars who retired five years ago as uncapped players. Pant was released by the Delhi Capitals (DC) after eight seasons with the team beginning in 2016.

Raina told JioCinema that he met MS Dhoni in Delhi, and Pant was also involved.I believe that something significant is about to occur. Someone will soon be sporting a yellow jersey.

Notably, this follows multiple media claims that Pant is on his way to CSK. If the relocation occurs, it would be unsurprising. With Dhoni, 43, nearing the end of his career, Pant may be the franchise’s next big-selling face, serving as wicketkeeper-batsman or even captain if necessary.

Pant scored 3,284 runs for DC in 111 matches, averaging 148.93, including a century and 17 fifties. His top score is 128*. He is the franchise’s leading run getter. DC made the playoffs in 2021 under his management, but failed to advance beyond the league stages in 2022 and 2024.

Pant scored 446 runs in 13 matches for the team in his comeback season last year, with an average of over 40 and a strike rate of more than 155. He scored three half-centuries, with his best score of 88*. While he was the franchise’s leading run-getter that season, he was unable to help them make the playoffs, as they lost out on the final four place with seven wins and seven losses, totaling 14 points and finishing sixth.

DC have elected to keep all-rounder Axar Patel, spinner Kuldeep Yadav, and batsmen Tristan Stubbs and Abishek Porel ahead of this year’s major auction.

Earlier this month, former Indian cricketers Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao joined the Delhi Capitals’ coaching team as head coach and director of cricket, respectively, ahead of the upcoming IPL season.

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly, a cricket great and one of India’s greatest captains, has been chosen as director of cricket.
