Smriti Mandhana : Among the four stars nominated for the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year 2024 award is Smriti Mandhana

Smriti Mandhana, the Indian vice-captain, has been nominated for the ICC ODI Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2024 award, along with four other top players. Mandhana had a standout year in the 50-over format, preparing for the Women’s ODI World Cup in India next year.

Smriti Mandhana was the top run-scorer

Mandhana was the top run-scorer in Women’s ODI cricket in 2024, with 747 runs from 13 innings at an average of 57.46. She also blasted four centuries and three and a half tonnes, contributing significantly to her team’s success.

She scored a pair of century against the South Africans in June before adding two more later in the year. She scored the highest score of 136 and a 95.15 run strike rate.

Along with Mandhana, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, and Australia’s Annabel Sutherland have all been nominated for the annual award. Wolvaardt was the second-highest run scorer of the year, with 697 runs in 12 innings at an average of 87.12.

She scored three hundreds and three half-tons in what was a fantastic year for the Proteas skipper.

Sri Lankan superstar Athapaththu has also been nominated for the annual award. In a prolific year, Athapaththu hit 458 runs in nine innings at a 65.42 average, including one century and two half-tons.

Sutherland, the Australian star all-rounder, had a strong year in both formats. Sutherland was Australia’s leading run-scorer in ODIs in 2024. She scored 369 runs in 9 innings for an average of 52.71, including two centuries and one fifty.

Along with the Women’s nominating candidates, the ICC has announced the finalists for the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year. Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Wanindu Hasaranga, Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai, and West Indies’ Sherfane Rutherford have all been nominated for the ODI Cricketer of the Year award.

Wanindu was outstanding with the ball, taking 26 wickets for an average of 15.61 and scoring 87 runs. Omarzai scored 417 runs at 52.12 and claimed 7 wickets at 20.47. Kusal Mendis scored 742 runs at 53.00. Rutherford scored 425 runs, with an average of 106.25.
