Marsh: ‘I wish Rishabh Pant could have been Australian.’

Marsh : Rishabh Pant, who has completed an amazing rehab to make his return to international cricket on the same note where he paused after an unavoidable break due to a horrible automobile accident in December 2022, is undoubtedly the player who gets fans’ adrenaline flowing the most these days.

After a year-long rehabilitation phase, India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Pant returned to professional cricket with the Indian Premier League earlier this year and went on to play a role in India’s T20 World Cup victory.

He scored a superb century in his debut Test against Bangladesh last week, marking his comeback to the old red ball format.

Pant’s tenacity, guts, determination, talent, enthusiasm, and aggressive approach to cricket have made Australia’s T20I captain, Mitchell Marsh, wishful thinking.

“He’s a ripping guy. When asked in a Star Sports video which Indian player he believes is the most Australian, Marsh laughed and replied, “I wish he was Australian.”

“He has definitely gained a lot of expertise over the last few years. What an incredible comeback. He’s a pleasant guy who is still youthful. He enjoys winning and is extremely competitive for someone who, on the surface, appears to be laid-back and always laughing. “He gets that enormous laugh. Marsh made a statement.

Pant scored a stroke-filled 109 in the next innings of India’s 280-run win in Chennai. He added 167 runs to his collaboration with fellow centurion and India opener Shubman Gill, who finished 119 not out.

Head, who scored a title-winning century in the ODI World Cup final versus India last year, could not agree more with Marsh.

India and Australia will square off in a five-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy before the end of the calendar year, with Pant hoping to repeat his Gabba heroics from India’s 2020-21 tour Down Under.

Pant earned his Test debut in 2018 against England. In 34 Tests and 58 innings, the 26-year-old scored 2419 runs with a strike rate of 74.11.

The 26-year-old played seven matches against Australia, scoring 624 runs at an average strike rate of 72.13.

Marsh told Star Sports

Marsh told Star Sports that Pant went through a lot in recent years and made a fantastic comeback. The Australian all-rounder praised the Indian cricketer, describing him as a “optimistic guy”.

“He’s a ripping guy. I wish he was Australian. He’s clearly gone through a lot in recent years, and he’s made a remarkable comeback. He’s a happy man who’s still quite young and enjoys winning. He is quite competitive for someone who exudes relaxation and is constantly laughing and smiling. Marsh told Star Sports, “He’s got that large expression.”

Travis Head, an Australian batsman, praised Pant for his “aggressive” nature.

“I believe Rishabh Pant is the Indian batsman who most closely matches Australia. I believe the way he approaches his aggressive temperament and work ethic would make him a lot of fun to play with,” Head added.

Pant played 31 One-Day Internationals and 27 innings, collecting 871 runs at an average strike rate of 106.21.

In T20Is, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter appeared in 76 matches and 66 innings, scoring 1209 runs with a strike rate of 127.26.

The second Test, set for December 6-10 at Adelaide Oval, will feature an intriguing day-night format under the stadium’s lights. After that, fans will turn their focus to The Gabba in Brisbane for the third Test, which will take place from December 14 to 18.

The traditional Boxing Day Test, scheduled for December 26-30 at Melbourne’s legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground, will bring the series to its concluding stage.

The fifth and final Test, held at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7, would act as the series’ climax, offering a dramatic end to a fascinating competition .
