IPL 2025 : In the ongoing IPL 2025, the Lucknow Super Giants defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets. Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh both scored half-centuries, but it was Shardul Thakur who set the tone with a four-wicket haul in the opening session. The 33-year-old went unsold in the IPL mega-auction, but LSG coach Zaheer Khan brought him to the camp after several of their bowlers were injured.
Shardul began well with two wickets against the Delhi Capitals and improved with a four-wicket haul against SRH. He removed Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan in his second over of the day, followed by Abhinav Manohar and Mohammed Shami. Apart from him, all other bowlers took one wicket apiece as Hyderabad scored 191 runs in the first innings.
Travis Head was SRH’s standout batsman, scoring 47 runs off 28 balls. Later, Nitish Reddy and Aniket Verma contributed important knocks of 32 and 36 runs respectively. However, neither cricketer was able to capitalize on their beginnings.

Pooran stole the show in the second innings, scoring 70 runs off just 26 balls. He smashed six boundaries and six sixes in his time at the crease, knocking SRH out of the game. Marsh provided solid support, scoring 52 runs off 31 deliveries. The duo put up a 116-run partnership, which was enough to propel LSG close to victory.

Later, Abdul Samad and David Miller helped Lucknow to a comfortable win in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Meanwhile, LSG now owns both the Orange Cap and the Purple Cap. Shardul is presently the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, while Pooran is the top run-scorer, with 145 runs in two games.
