IND vs AUS : It was one man, who carried India through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He was overbowled, mismanaged, and eventually forced to take a back seat as India’s fifth and final Test against Australia in Sydney, without Jasprit Bumrah, ran out of steam. India needed one last major effort from their saviour Bumrah, who had a fantastic series with 32 wickets and bowled 151.2 overs across five matches. However, Australia strolled beyond the 162-run target to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in ten years and qualify for the World Test Championship final.
Australia’s points percentage (PCT) has risen to 63.72, and even if they lose the remaining two games against Sri Lanka in the current cycle, their PCT will still be higher than both India and Sri Lanka. There are still a few Test assignments left, but the conclusion has already been decided: Australia will face South Africa at Lord’s in June, while India, the two-time finalists, has been eliminated.

India has lost six Tests in their past two series, including a 3-0 loss at home to New Zealand, as well as games in Adelaide, Melbourne, and now Sydney . India’s defensive strategy cost them dearly and came back to haunt them. Whether it was selection or gameplan, India was constantly attempting to avoid defeat rather than striving for victory.
Because there were more all-rounders than specialists, Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj bowled far more than they should have, which cost them dearly. With Bumrah unable to bowl for an entire innings and India fielding two spinners on a green surface, with the series on the line and a WTC final position at stake, questions will be raised about the coach, think-tank and captain.
Bumrah effort in IND vs AUS match
India needed planning rather than effort. Bumrah, who won Player of the Series with 32 wickets in 151.2 overs, appeared to be doing it all alone, as the 1-3 result against India suggests. Prasidh Krishna, who was on fire on a spicy field in Sydney, only played one Test match in the series, while Harshit Rana, who made his debut in Perth, was unsuccessful in Adelaide before Akash Deep was added to the side for the next two matches.

India has long lacked a fourth seamer since the two spearheads were overbowled and eventually ground to dust, and one of them could not even perform. India’s series, tactics, and approach were all summarised on the final day in Sydney.
Cummins and Scott Boland easily finished up India’s batting on the third and final day of the Test match, taking 10 wickets for 76 runs in total, including six-fer in the second innings. If India had Bumrah, 162 may have been a challenge. India were asking a lot of themselves to defend that kind of target with only two bowlers.
Nonetheless, Prasidh kept the game interesting by grabbing three wickets in the opening session. However, it was fitting that Travis Head, India’s tormentor throughout the summer, was at the end, with Beau Webster capping things off on debut. India had prided itself on a 12-year home series record and a 10-year Border-Gavaskar Trophy win record before losing both and failing to reach the WTC final for the first time ever.
