Emma Raducanu thinks She has the ability to be one of the top tennis players

Emma Raducanu, a 22-year-old British tennis standout, is aiming to become one of the sport’s most athletic players as she practices for the 2025 season.

Raducanu has engaged renowned fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura to help her restore competitive consistency after a succession of setbacks that have plagued her career since her spectacular US Open victory in 2021.

Nakamura, recognised for his transforming work with tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka, offers decades of knowledge to Raducanu’s team. The partnership demonstrates Raducanu’s intention to focus on her physical fitness, which she says is underutilised.

Emma Raducanu told Sky Sports

“I feel he will help me simply truly study how far I can go actually,” Raducanu told Sky Sports.” “I believe I have the potential to be one of the world’s best tennis players, and I’m excited to see how far I can go. I’m much more at ease working with him and Nick.

Raducanu has also found consistency with her childhood guide, Nick Cavaday, who will keep trying to coach her. Raducanu will be accompanied by Cavaday and Nakamura during the 2025 season, which will begin with warm-weather training in Brisbane, Australia, followed by her first competition of the season on December 30 in Auckland.

Raducanu, who has been preparing at London’s National Tennis Centre since leading Britain to the Billie Jean King Cup semi-finals last month, is eager to get started. Her plan includes possible trips to Adelaide before the Australian Open, which begins on January 12.

Raducanu has been sidelined for extended amounts of time in recent years due to persistent injuries, including a foot injury that forced her to miss the later half of the 2024 season. She is now ranked 59th in the world and intends to play as many matches as possible in the first few weeks of 2025 to increase her confidence and match fitness.

“I feel quite strong. “I feel very fit,” Raducanu added. “On the training court, I feel fantastic.I’m sprinting and hurling myself around the court, but performing matches is a different experience. It’ll be interesting to watch how I react as the level rises and I have to play more back-to-back games.”

Raducanu also addressed the latest doping incident involving Iga Swiatek, the five-time Grand Slam champion who received a one-month penalty after a supplement she took was discovered to be contaminated with a prohibited ingredient. The case has made players more mindful of the dangers of supplements and contamination.

“I believe in generally, not just me but a lot of players that I know, we’re quite apprehensive,” she explained to reporters. “We are acutely aware of the situation and how quickly things might become contaminated. I’d like to take certain vitamins, but I can’t because they’re not batch-tested and are sold over the counter.

Raducanu acknowledged the economic cost of assuring safety, stating that batch testing costs around £1,000 per item. “I am very careful regarding what I drink and eat. I am quite nervous if I leave my water out. However, it is only a portion of the sport. “We are all in the same boat.”
