Cheteshwar Pujara wants India to remain with the same opening partnership that helped them win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy first Test in Perth by 295 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul had shared 201 runs for the first wicket in the second innings of the series opener, but with Rohit Sharma returning as captain, India’s batting order remains uncertain heading into the second Test at the Adelaide Oval.

Pujara believes India ought to maintain its opener with Rahul and Yashasvi, followed by Rohit at three and, if fit, Shubman Gill at five.
“I think about, for specific reasons, if we can carry on with the same batting position like KL and Yashasvi as openers, Rohit may come in at three, and Shubman could come in at five,” Pujara speak . “If Rohit wants to bat first, KL should bat at number three. Nothing else follows that. I feel he should bat at the top of the order since it suits his game perfectly. I hope we don’t meddle with it.
Pujara believes Gill can bat at No. 5 in the red ball layout, thus he will be an excellent option in the pink ball Test.
“Perfectly, no. 5.” Because it allows him to come in at a time when we may have lost two wickets early, he can negotiate the new ball,” Pujara remarked. “If he came in after, say, 25 or 30 overs, he can play every shot he takes. He is capable of playing his natural game. And if we lose the first three wickets quickly, Gill steps in and rescues Rishabh Pant for the old ball. [Pant] does not have to confront the new ball. I do not want him to bat while the ball is solid and new.”
