Usman Khawaja, a veteran Australian batsman, has indicated his wish to participate in another Ashes series before retiring. The opener recently played for Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series, when they defeated India 3-1.
Australia’s first BGT victory in ten years helped them advance to the World Test Championship final, where they will face South Africa in June.
Khawaja, on the other hand, had a disappointing home series against India, scoring only 184 runs at an average of 20.44 over 10 innings. Of his nine dismissals in the series, six went to India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who was crowned man of the series with 32 wickets.

His dismal form caused worries, as he scored only 458 runs in 20 innings of ten matches at an average of 22.9, with only two fifties last year, prompting many to question if he should be included in the squad for the five-match Ashes series .

However, the left-hander has been picked in Australia’s forthcoming two-match Test series in Sri Lanka, which begins on January 29, and will try to regain form with an eye on the Ashes.
I’m not afraid to admit that I had those thoughts (bowing out in Sydney). I’m human. I’d still like to play the Ashes at the very least. I try not to think too far ahead; that is the farthest I will think.
“As long as we’re winning and I’m still contributing, and my body is feeling good, I’ll play. “For me, it’s more like one summer at a time (rather than retiring after the Ashes),” he told roar.com.

Usman Khawaja tells
The 38-year-old is part of an older Australian group that, with the exception of debutants Nathan McSweeney and Sam Konstas, is all over the age of 29. He realised that his time will come to an end in the future years, but he wanted to go on a little longer and wanted to retire.
“Over the next three to four years, there will be a lot of transition. I’m aware of this, and I still want to play and will continue to do so for as long as possible. But I also know there might be a good time to sneak away in Sydney.
“If I’m continuing to play and the selectors are like, ‘We feel like the time’s come’, it’s, ‘You let me know and I can slide out’.”
