AUS vs IND : India dominated Australia’s batting lineup; Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets

AUS vs IND : Indian bowlers made a stunning effort on the first day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Perth. Despite being bowled out for only 150 in their first innings, skipper  Jasprit Bumrah led the attack with a fierce spell, assisted by fellow pacers Mohammed Siraj and newcomer Harshit Rana. Their superb performance saw India impose an uncomfortable record on Australia, highlighted by a spectacular bowling display at Perth Stadium

For the 2nd time in 44 years, Australia’s top five wickets were lost for a score of less than 40 in home Tests. The visitors, led by excellent bowling from the Indian speedsters, sent the hosts reeling at 38/5. Since 1952, the Australians have only gone five down at home before topping 40 on two occasions, the other being the 2016 Hobart Test against South Africa. The hosts had then gone 17-5.

India dominated Australia’s batting lineup, with captain Jasprit Bumrah leading the assault. He started the onslaught by removing rookie Nathan McSweeney LBW following a successful review after the first verdict was not out in the third over. Bumrah then dismissed opener Usman Khawaja, who was caught in the slips in the seventh over, before claiming Steve Smith for a golden duck by pinning him right in front of the stumps.

India needed contributions from the other end, and debutant Harshit Rana delivered, dismissing Travis Head with a delivery that straightened sharply after pitching in the corridor of uncertainty. Mohammad Siraj finally got through in his sixth over, dismissing Mitchell Marsh with a superb low grab at third slip by KL Rahul. The hosts were reeling after losing half their team and finding themselves in serious jeopardy.

By the conclusion of the day, the Indian pacers had achieved two more wicket. Siraj dismissed Marnus Labuschagne, who scored only two runs off 52 balls, while Bumrah dismissed his counterpart, Pat Cummins, who was caught behind. Australia fell to stumps at 67/7, behind by 83 runs.
