According to Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma’s selection in the Sydney Test XI is not certain

Gautam Gambhir : Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, has been under fire for his poor performances with the bat in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. In 2024, Rohit has scored 10 single digits in 15 Test innings. He has managed just 31 runs in five innings, scoring 3, 6, 10, 3, and 9 at a poor average of 6.20, the lowest by a touring captain in Australia. Fans and analysts alike have called for the out-of-form Indian skipper to be dropped. However, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir did not rule out Rohit missing the series finale.

conference on the eve of the match, Gautam Gambhir stated

Speaking during a news conference on the eve of the match, Gambhir stated that the squad has yet to make a final decision on the XI.

“Every individual understands where they require to work. When you play for your country, you want to do your best. I believe that debates between a player and a coach should remain between them; talks should be limited to the locker room. Everything is great with Rohit, and we will announce (Playing 11) tomorrow after inspecting the pitch. We had only one talk in our dressing room: how we can win the next test, which is critical for us,” Gambhir remarked.

Regarding Rohit’s absence from the news conference, Gambhir stated, “I don’t think it’s anything traditional; I think the Head Coach is here, so that should be fine and good enough.”

Gambhir also expressed confidence that India can win in Sydney and regain the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

“We are completely confident to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy.,” Gambhir went on. “The Only conversation that happens is how to win the next match”

Meanwhile, Gambhir said that pacer Akash Deep will miss the last game due to a back injury.

Australia defeated India by 184 runs in the Melbourne Test, taking a 2-1 series lead and diminishing India’s chances of competing for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord this year. Currently, Australia leads India 2-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. To qualify for the WTC final, India must win in Sydney.
