    EU chief : On  Thursday European Commission the president Ursula von der Leyen, promised 10 billion euros ($11 billion) in funding to member countries suffering from “heartbreaking” destruction caused by Storm Boris floods.

    On Wednesday, the death toll from the storm that hit central and eastern Europe last week climbed to 24, and some areas remain under threat from rising waters.

    Von der Leyen spoke in Wroclaw, Poland, alongside the leaders of four flood-affected countries.

    “It was for me on the one hand terrible to see the devastation and loss of life through the floods,” she said to the media.

    “But I must also say it was on another side heartwarming to see the tremendous solidarity between the citizens in your countries,” she maintained.

    Von von Leyen stated that the European Union had two sources of cash, cohesion funds and the solidarity fund, that it could use to “help with funding to repair and reconstruct” the damage.

    Beirut : On Tuesday and Wednesday, thousands of Hezbollah members detonated pagers and walkie-talkies around Lebanon, killing at least 32 people and wounding thousands more. This incident has spawned a number of speculations regarding how these devices were sabotaged. While the precise mechanism causing the explosions is still being explored, a few possibilities have arisen.

    Much of the argument revolves around the claim that the pagers were tampered with, leading their batteries to overheat and explode. According to Lebanese Telecommunications Minister Johnny Corm, the overheating indicated “foul play”. However, cybersecurity expert Robert Graham swiftly disregarded this hypothesis, claiming that making batteries do more than burn is unrealistic. Instead, he proposed the far more plausible scenario that someone bribed the factories involved to incorporate explosives into the gadgets, Bloomberg reported.

    The first round of explosives came on Tuesday, when pagers used by the Iran-backed terror group went off across Lebanon. The blasts occurred shortly after Israel declared a strategic expansion of its military operations against Hezbollah. On Wednesday, a second wave of explosives involving Hezbollah walkie-talkies caused even more chaos.

    Theory 1: Explosives placed in devices.
    According to Lebanese security officials and Reuters reports, a new batch of 5,000 pagers ordered by Hezbollah from Taiwanese manufacturer Gold Apollo was compromised. The Israeli espionage intelligence agency Mossad is suspected of inserting tiny explosive explosives into these devices. The explosives, which were apparently as little as 3 grams, were hidden in such a way that Hezbollah did not see them for months. The explosive mechanism is thought to be activated remotely via a coded message relayed to pagers. According to specialists, ordinary scanners could not detect these explosives.

    The attack on the walkie-talk which are thought to have been acquired at the same time, has been linked to a similar sabotage operation. These gadgets, branded as ICOM and apparently manufactured in Japan, are likely to have been altered with during production, potentially by Mossad. The walkie-talkie explosions are less well-documented, but it’s possible that the same coded message mechanism was used to activate the embedded explosives.

    Theory 2: The supply chain has been disrupted

    Another theory holds that the supply chain has been tampered with. Security analysts believe Israeli intelligence may have obtained the devices before they reached Hezbollah. The pagers were identified as Gold Apollo AR-924 models, however additional inquiry found that they were manufactured by BAC Consulting in Hungary, a business licensed to use the Gold Apollo trademark. Videos circulating on social media allegedly show people gazing at their pagers just before the blasts occurred.

    Who is to blame?

    Hezbollah has blamed Israeli for the strike and promised vengeance.     The Indian Navy leased two MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones, a derivative of the Predator B manufactured by General Atomics in the USA, in 2020 to improve its intelligence-gathering, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities in the Indian Ocean. The lease was initially for a year, but it has already been renewed. Drones have begun flying from the Rajali Naval Air Station in Tamil Nadu.

    Indian Navy requested a thorough report

    “A high-altitude, lengthy remotely piloted aircraft leased by the Indian Navy operated from INS Rajali, Arakonnam encountered an operational problem at about 2 pm while on a normal surveillance mission which was unable to reset in flight,” according to the Indian Navy’s statement.

    “The aircraft was navigated to a suitable area oversea to carry out a controlled ditching at sea off Chennai,” according to the report. The Navy has requested a complete investigation from the original equipment manufacturer.

    Notably, controlled ditched typically refers to an emergency landing of an airplane on water.

    India wants to buy 31 MQ-9B The Predator drones.

    General Atomics operated and maintained the MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones in accordance with the lease agreement. As part of the agreement, the corporation is obligated to replace the lost drone with another.

    This incident occurred during India’s current purchase procedure for 31 MQ-9B Predator drones, which are expected to improve the military forces’ surveillance capabilities, particularly near the country’s disputed border with China. In June last year, the Defence Ministry approved the acquisition of these drones from the United States under a government-to-government arrangement for a total cost of roughly USD 3 billion.

    The MQ-9B is a derivative of the MQ-9 “Reaper,” which was notable for launching a modified Hellfire missile that killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul in July 2022.

    The drone was directed to a safe location for the emergency landing at sea, which resulted in no injuries. However, Navy sources stated that the $150 million drone is unsalvageable and will be written off. The military has requested a thorough investigation by the drone’s manufacturer, General Atomics, to discover the root cause of the failure.

    Under the lease agreement, General Atomics is responsible for drone maintenance and will replace the lost unit to meet the Navy’s operational requirements.

    Afghanistan : On Wednesday, September 18, Afghanistan won its maiden ODI against South Africa in Sharjah.The South African team was bowled out for 106 against Afghanistan’s powerful bowling attack, despite missing most of its players from the series.

    The Afghan side led by Hashmatullah Shahidi struggled early in the chase, but eventually won by six wickets to make history. Afghanistan’s top bowler was in-form pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi, who took four wickets, while youthful spinner Allah Gazanfar took three.

    Afghanistan has previously failed to defeat South Africa in two one-day internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals. However, they outperformed the Proteas in every category at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, putting an end to their quest for their first victory.

    Earlier, stand-in captain Aiden Makram won the toss and elected to bat first, with all-rounder Jason Smith making his debut in an ODI.However, his decision to bat first backfired, as the Proteas lost their first seven wickets and scored only 36 runs in 10 overs.

    However, Wiaan Mulder then scored his first international fifty with 52 runs to assist South Africa avoid their lowest ODI total. Farooqi continued his red-hot form with four wickets for 35, bringing his ODI total to 100. Gazanfar seized 3 wickets for 30 runs, with Rashid Khan taking 2 for the hosts.

    Following the game, Markram accepted the unfortunate loss and stated that his side will return with a better game plan for the second game on Friday.

    “We were some runs short,” Aiden Markram admitted after the game ended. “Some good honest reflections can take place tonight and tomorrow, and we can make better plans on Friday.” They made things difficult for us, but I still believe we are a better hitting unit. We need solid game plans to put pressure back on them. We couldn’t put them under pressure. Honest learnings. We’ll try to bounce back. Gameplans and methods would change for each individual, but as long as they followed the team’s guidelines, we would be good.”

    As if Farooqi wasn’t enough, teenager Allah Ghazanfar joined the party by dismissing dangerous Tristan Stubbs for duck. In the same over, South Africa’s rookie Jason Smith was dismissed for a five-ball duck. South Africa quickly fell to 29/5, fearing they would be bowled out for their lowest-ever ODI total of 69 against Australia in Sydney in 1993.

    The Afghan duo kept generating havoc, and by the end of the power-play, South Africa was reeling at 36/7. Their difficulties were compounded by the odd expulsion of Andile Phehlukwayo, who found himself beyond the crease after facing the ball. Gulbadin Naib, the wicketkeeper, soon ran him out.

    Wiaan Mulder and Bjorn Fortuin teamed up to get the team out of difficulty, but the latter was quickly bowled by Rashid Khan in a wicket-maiden over.

    Nonetheless, Mulder led the fightback, while Nandre Burger held down the fort on the other end. Mulder saved his team from embarrassment by appearing at ease at the crease and scoring his first ODI fifty in 80 deliveries.

    Farooqi, bowling him, ended his excellent knock. Rashid Khan took Lungi Ngidi’s wicket, bringing South Africa’s innings to a finish at 106. Farooqi, who took four wickets in the match, became Afghanistan’s 100th international wicket taker in his 75th innings.
