Garden Reach : Garden Reaching Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd shares rose 6% in Thursday trading after the defence PSU earned an additional vessel order from a German company. The shipbuilder stated that it has received approval from a customer to purchase and deliver four additional multi-purpose vessels.
The order totals $54 million. On June 22nd, the firm informed the stock exchanges that it had signed a contract with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co., KG Germany for the building and transportation of multipurpose boats, with a choice to build four more in the near future.

Indian Navy drone crashes: On Wednesday, a MQ-9B Sea Guardian drone leased by the Indian Navy from the US crashed into the Bay of Bengal near Chennai due to a mechanical malfunction. According to the Indian Navy, the drone was operating from the INS Rajali naval air station in Arakkonam, near Chennai.
The MQ-9B Sea Guardian is a long-duration, high-altitude drone that is commonly utilized for maritime surveillance and reconnaissance activities.
The Indian Navy leased two MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones, a derivative of the Predator B manufactured by General Atomics in the USA, in 2020 to improve its intelligence-gathering, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities in the Indian Ocean. The lease was initially for a year, but it has already been renewed. Drones have begun flying from the Rajali Naval Air Station in Tamil Nadu.

“A high-altitude, lengthy remotely piloted aircraft leased by the Indian Navy operated from INS Rajali, Arakonnam encountered an operational problem at about 2 pm while on a normal surveillance mission which was unable to reset in flight,” according to the Indian Navy’s statement.
“The aircraft was navigated to a suitable area oversea to carry out a controlled ditching at sea off Chennai,” according to the report. The Navy has requested a complete investigation from the original equipment manufacturer.

General Atomics operated and maintained the MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones in accordance with the lease agreement. As part of the agreement, the corporation is obligated to replace the lost drone with another.
This incident occurred during India’s current purchase procedure for 31 MQ-9B Predator drones, which are expected to improve the military forces’ surveillance capabilities, particularly near the country’s disputed border with China. In June last year, the Defence Ministry approved the acquisition of these drones from the United States under a government-to-government arrangement for a total cost of roughly USD 3 billion.
The MQ-9B is a derivative of the MQ-9 “Reaper,” which was notable for launching a modified Hellfire missile that killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul in July 2022.
The drone was directed to a safe location for the emergency landing at sea, which resulted in no injuries. However, Navy sources stated that the $150 million drone is unsalvageable and will be written off. The military has requested a thorough investigation by the drone’s manufacturer, General Atomics, to discover the root cause of the failure.
Under the lease agreement, General Atomics is responsible for drone maintenance and will replace the lost unit to meet the Navy’s operational requirements.

CBSE is scheduled to announce the exam dates for Class 10 and 12. The examination is expected to begin in February and conclude in April. According to a previous PTI on X post, the exam will commence on February 15, 2024.
CBSE has held the board exam on February 15 every year since 2023. The exam was held from May 4 to June 7 in 2021 and April 26 to May 24 in 2022.
The exam will be administered on paper and pen. The Board will issue a different timetable for practical exams.The practical test for Class 12 will be overseen by an external examiner who will be visiting schools; however, the Class 10 practical exam will only be done in the presence of school teachers.
The CBSE Class 10 and 12 timetables will contain test dates, hours, and general instructions for students.
Meanwhile, CBSE is studying a semester system with biennial exams. Currently, board exams for grades 10 and 12 are held in February and March.
According to officials, negotiations are ongoing, and no decision has been taken on when or how to carry out the plan to hold board exams twice a year.
The board has informed the Union Education Ministry that the current structure requires more than 150 processes to conduct examinations for Classes 10 and 12.
The ministry’s initial aim was to start biannual board exams in the 2024-25 academic year. “However, it has been halted for one year.”
The new NCF, developed by the Union government-appointed national steering group chaired by former ISRO chairman K Kasturirangan and in conformity with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, recommends the use of semesters for learners in Classes 11 and 12.

After being granted bail by the Supreme Court on Saturday, Kejriwal announced that he will resign from his position and seek a clean slate in the people’s court.

However, even after a series of talks on Sunday and Monday, it remains unclear who would succeed him.
Mr Kejriwal sought the views of the party’s Political Affairs Committee on the issue on Monday and met with several leaders one-on-one, according to senior politician Saurabh Bhardwaj.
Manish Sisodia, Mr Kejriwal’s formerly Deputy, has made a similar commitment, putting them both out of the running. Mr Sisodia was previously arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case and spent 18 months in jail before being released on bail.

Mr Kejriwal has called for a joint election in November with Maharashtra. His party has stated that the voters want to re-elect him. The Delhi assembly elections will take place in February of next year.
Mr Kejriwal’s election, however, will not address his legal issues. While the Supreme Court has not asked him to resign, it has stated that he cannot visit his office or the Delhi Secretariat or sign papers without the agreement of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, essentially limiting his ability to operate as Chief Minister.
Mr Kejriwal’s announcement that he would quit has sparked criticism from the BJP, which has questioned why he did not do so “today.”
The Delhi Congress, AAP’s bitter enemies despite the INDIA bloc coalition, labelled it a political gimmick. “It would have been better if he had resigned when Delhi was facing floods and a drinking water shortage,” said Delhi Congress head Devendra Yadav.
Kejriwal is expected to quit and designate a successor to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena before the national capital’s elections.
A day before party MLAs gather to decide on Kejriwal successor, the AAP hosted a series of meetings to discuss probable contenders for the chief minister’s office.
The current session of the Delhi Assembly expires on February 11, 2025. Delhi’s last parliamentary election was conducted on February 8, 2020.
Arvind Kejriwal Resignation Information: BJP, Congress Criticise Delhi CM’s Move
The BJP called Kejriwal’s resignation as Delhi Chief Minister a “PR stunt.” According to BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari, Kejriwal’s action was an attempt to restore his image among voters, who now regard him as “corrupt.”
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit also denounced the resignation, calling it a “gimmick.” He questioned the legitimacy of a leader announcing such a resignation after being released on bail and ordered by the Supreme Court not to perform official duties.

Kejriwal is scheduled to meet with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena today at 4:30 p.m., at which he is likely to present his resignation. Saxena has verified the meeting’s schedule. AAP had already stated that Kejriwal was likely to stand down. The AAP chief had declared that he and Manish Sisodia would only take office again if the public confirmed their honesty.
