How did the staff commit the fraud?
According to NBC, which cited evidence from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, many staff members were fired for using Apple’s charities matching grants program. This program is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative intended to promote employee donations. According to the study, the employees participating in the scam abused this program, which resulted in their termination.
According to the charges, some staff, in partnership with non-profit organisations, boosted the gift amount incorrectly. In this initiative, employees pretended to donate, but in actuality they received this donation back from the organisations, and the employees retained the matching amount provided by Apple for themselves. In addition, the accused faces tax evasion charges.
