UK : A 20-year-old woman was compensated 30,000 pounds (Rs 32,20,818) after being fired from her job at a recruiting agency for wearing trainers to work.Elizabeth Benassi, who began working at Maximus UK Services in 2022, said she had no idea the company had a dress code and was unfairly singled out because of her shoes, despite the fact that other coworkers wore similar shoes and got away with it.
A UK woman who was dismissed for wearing sports shoes at work has received Rs 30 lakh.
Benassi, who was 18 years old when she was hired, said in an employment tribunal that her boss treated her “like a child” when he mocked her choice of footwear. The employment tribunal in Croydon, south London, ruled in her favour. It concluded that the corporation had a “desire to find fault” with the young employee.

Benassi had only been at the job agency for three months when she was sacked. The tribunal was also informed that the majority of her coworkers were in their twenties, and Benassi was the company’s youngest employee, who was “micromanaged” because of her age.

Maximus UK Services, which offers services to the Department for Work and Pensions, denied any wrongdoing, but the tribunal found in favour of Benassi, awarding her 29,187 pounds in compensation for victimisation. The verdict raises issues about age-based discrimination and treatment of young employees at work.
Reported to The Metro, Employment Judge Forwell stated: “Had that been the case, Ms Ashraf would have no doubt addressed it at the time in her email response. So, when Ms Benassi arrived at the office, she was promptly and unfairly confronted about this.
“No regard was given to the fact that she was new and may not have been familiar with the dress code. It was so clearly unjust and suggests a willingness to find fault.” Her other claim for age-related harassment was denied by the employment tribunal.
