German Chancellor Scholz Says Elon Musk’s Right-Wing Support in Europe Is “vile”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz slammed Elon Musk’s support for right-wing parties in the European Union on Tuesday, calling it “really disgusting” and claiming it was undermining democracy in the EU.

The US billionaire and Trump ally has regularly lambasted the chancellor and his cabinet, calling for his resignation and stating that the far-right Alternatives for Germany (AfD) party is the country’s only hope.German Chancellor: Elon Musk’s Right-Wing Supporting in Europe Is “Disgusting”

“What is different is that he is intervening on behalf of right-wing leaders across Europe. And this is just awful, and it is detrimental to the democratic development of the entire European Union,” Scholz said in English to a journalist’s ask following a campaign event in Berlin.

Musk recently made a surprise appearance at the AfD’s campaign event via video link, stating that Germans should not be held responsible for their parents’ misdeeds and instead be proud of their culture.

“I am totally dismissive of what Elon Musk said about Germany’s the past,” Scholz said, adding that the nation will continue to bear responsibility for previous crimes made by Germans.

This week is the commemoration of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz, according to Scholz. “This killing of so many Jews and other people in Europe done by Germans in the past, this is a historic responsibility” .

Germany is grateful to the United States for liberating it from Nazis and assisting it in becoming a democracy again, Scholz said, adding, “and this is why I am so angry about Elon Musk intervening for the far-right.”

Last week, the world’s richest person sparked outrage when he made a gesture that was compared to a Nazi salute at Trump’s inauguration.

The anti-immigrant, anti-Islam AfD has been labelled a right-wing extremist by German security services, but it is currently polling second in nationwide surveys ahead of the country’s upcoming snap election, in which the debate over immigration has heated up following a series of violent attacks by foreign-born suspects.
