Emergency Sirens : In response to rising tensions with India following the fatal Pahalgam terror incident that murdered 26 people, Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has begun erecting emergency alert sirens throughout 29 districts. The sirens are designed to alert civilians to any airborne threats and help limit hazards in the event of a military escalation.
The Directorate of Civil Defense has officially directed all Deputy Commissioners and Civil Defense Officers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to install emergency alert sirens as soon as possible. They’ve also been told to report on the installation’s progress frequently.

The 29 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar , Abbottabad, Mardan, Kohat, Swat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Malakand, Lower Dir, Lower Chitral, Kurram, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bajaur, Haripur, Mansehra, Hangu, Mohmand, Upper Dir, Shangla, Buner, Lakki Marwat, Khyber, North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Battagram, Tank, and Orakzai will all have emergency alert sirens placed strategically.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, May 1, the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) prohibited the broadcast of ‘Indian tunes’ on Pakistani FM radio stations. This decision was made in response to the April 22 terror assault in Pahalgam, India. The terror assault in Jammu and Kashmir last week targeted tourists and killed 26 people. Following the Pahalgam terror assault, India has taken tough steps against Pakistan for its sponsorship of cross-border terrorism.
