The report states that on Wednesday, he “carried out physiotherapy, walked, and received relatives contacts.”
Lula underwent emergency surgery on Tuesday to relieve pressure on his head caused by bleeding in his cranial membranes from a fall in the presidential residence’s toilet in October.
On Monday, he complained of a headache in Brasilia, and an MRI scan indicated bleeding between his brain and the dura mater membrane that surrounds it.
He was transported to Hospital Sirio-Libanes, the nation’s premier medical center, where physicians performed a trepanation, which involved drilling into his head to relieve pressure.
Earlier Wednesday, the medical center announced that Lula was awake and had “progressed successfully” since the surgery, “without incident.”
His medical team declared in a post-surgery information statement on Tuesday that no brain injury had occurred.
They said he’d spend a few days in intensive care and under observation before being released next week.
Lula fell in bathroom on 19 October
After his fall on October 19, Lula informed a Workers’ Organization official that the incident was “serious.”
In the following weeks, the president avoided planned abroad trips. But he resumed his active schedule in mid-November, hosting a G20 summit in Rio and attending a Mercosur summit in Uruguay last week.
