Germany : 7 Indians were among the approximately 200 people who were hurt in the Christmas market attack

Germany: According to government sources, seven Indians were injured in a destructive car-ramming attack in the eastern German city of Magdeburg on Saturday night (December 21, 2024). The Indian embassy in Berlin is extending all available assistance.

According to German officials, a 50-year-old man drove into crowds at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt state, on Friday evening, killing at least five people and injuring about 200 others.

Three of the seven Indians who were injured have been released from the hospital, according to government sources.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) denounced the “horrific and senseless” a tragic tale and announced that the Indian representation in Germany is in touch with those impacted. It did not specify how many Indians were injured.

According to a post on X, the Indian embassy in Berlin is in close communication with those injured in the attack.

According to the MEA, the Indian embassy is offering all possible assistance to the Indians who were hurt in the incident.

“We condemn the horrific and senseless attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany,” said the Ministry of External Affairs. “Several people have died, and many more have been hurt. Our sympathies and prayers are with the victims.

According to local law police, the 50-year-old guy who drove the car into the crowd was detained.

According to sources, the individual is from Saudi Arabia and has resided in Germany since 2006.

Senior prosecutor Horst Walter Nopens stated that the motive for the attack is unknown, although the suspect’s dissatisfaction with Germany’s treatment of Saudi refugees may have played a factor, according to German broadcaster Deutsche Welle.

On Saturday, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and Chancellor Olaf Scholz paid a visit to Magdeburg.
