President Donald Trump said on Friday that he will replace General Charles “CQ” Brown, who is less than two years into his four-year term as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump congratulated Brown for “his over 40 years of service to our country” and stated that he is “honoured to announce that I am nominating Air Force Lieutenant General Dan ‘Razin’ Caine to be the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.”

“General Caine is a superb pilot, national security expert, which is genius entrepreneur, and a ‘warfighter’ with significant interagency and wartime experience,” Trump wrote in a tweet.

According to Caine’s US Air Force biography, he worked as associate director for military relations at the CIA, as well as in numerous operational and staff duties, including more than 150 hours in combat as an F-16 pilot, an aircraft in which he has logged more than 2,800 hours total.

Brown was the second Black officer to hold the position as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, following Colin Powell from 1989 to 1993. He was commissioned an officer in 1984 and is a skilled pilot with over 3,000 fly hours, 130 of which were in combat.
Brown has led a fighter squadron, two fighter wings, and US air forces under both Central Command and Indo-Pacific Command. Since October 2023, he has served as head of the Joint Chiefs.
