“We will be unable to proceed with the framework until we have a list of the hostages who will be released, as agreed. Israel will not tolerate breaches of the deal. “Hamas is solely responsible,” Netanyahu declared in a Hebrew-language post on X.

In a televised address, Mr Netanyahu stated that Israel has the “right to resume war if necessary” with US backing. He stated that he will make sure that all captives are returned to Israel.

“We reserve the right to resume the war if needed, with American help,” stated Netanyahu in a televised statement. He went on to say that Israel has “changed the face of the Middle East” since the war started.

94 of the 251 hostages are still in Gaza, including 34 who, according to the Israeli military, have died.

The ceasefire is set to begin on Sunday morning, according to mediator Qatar, following Israel’s cabinet approval of the truce and hostage-release agreement.

Israeli strikes on Gaza have continued since Qatar and the United States, who mediated the arrangement with Egypt, announced it on Wednesday.

According to AFP, a strike damaged a family’s tent in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, on Saturday, killing at least five members. Explosions were heard over Jerusalem after air raid sirens sounded, and the military stated a projectile had been launched from Yemen, where Iran-backed Huthi rebels claim to support the Palestinian cause.

In more almost 15 months of fighting between Hamas and Israel, there has only been one previous truce, which lasted one week in November 2023. That agreement also included the release of militant hostages in exchange for Palestinian detainees.

Israel’s justice ministry had stated that 737 Palestinian prisoners and detainees will be released as part of the deal’s first phase, but none before 4 p.m. (1400 GMT) on Sunday.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani stated that terrorists in Gaza would release 33 hostages during an initial 42-day ceasefire.

Sheikh Mohammed told Sky News that the framework signed this week was the same as the one reached on December 23, and that it amounted to “13 months of a waste of negotiating details”.

The truce will go into effect on the eve of Donald Trump’s second term inauguration.

The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas started an attack on Israel, killing 1,210 persons, the majority of whom were civilians, according to an AFP count of Israeli official estimates.

Israel’s retaliatory campaign has destroyed much of Gaza, killing 46,899 people, the majority of them are civilians, according to estimates from the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry, which the UN considers accurate.
