Last year, the film became India’s first Grand Prix winner at the Cannes Film Festival. All We Imagine As Light had previously lost to Emilia Perez in the Best Non-English Language Motion Picture competition at the Golden Globes.

All We Imagine As Light received a delayed theatrical premiere in India in late 2024, after winning both hearts and trophies at international film festivals. It has been streaming since January 2025, making its OTT premiere on Disney+ Hotstar.
The Film Confederation of India did not select the film as India’s official entry for the Oscars, which sparked widespread outrage. Instead, Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies was chosen to represent India in the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. However, the film did not make it to the shortlist, let alone get nominated.
The 82nd Golden Globes began Sunday night at 8 p.m. EST (6.30 a.m. IST), trying to recreate the light-hearted, comic mood of previous events hosted by legends such as Ricky Gervais or Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. This year, comedian Nikki Glaser will host the event. In India, fans may watch the show on Lionsgate Play, where it has been airing live since Monday morning at 6.30 a.m.
The Golden Globe nomination was an important milestone for Kapadia and Indian cinema, showing the world’s excitement for her storytelling and vision.
