UPSC extends the deadline for applying to the preliminary civil services exam until February 18

UPSC  has extended the deadline for applying for civil services preliminary examination 2025 to February 18 (Tuesday). The UPSC conducts the civil services test in three parts each year: preliminary, mains, and interview, to choose officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and IPS, among other positions.

The deadline for registering for Civil Services (Preliminary)-2025 and Indian Forest Service (Preliminary)-2025 tests “has been extended till 18.02.2025 (6 pm),” according to a note posted on the Commission’s website.

According to the statement, a correction window will be accessible for applicants “till the expiry of seven days from the next day after the closure of the application window, i.e., from 19.02.2025 to 25.02.2025”. The previous deadline for applying for the exam online was February 11, 2025, at 6 p.m.

UPSC notice did not explain

Candidates must submit their applications online at http://upsconline.gov.in. The UPSC notice did not explain why the application deadline was extended. According to official sources, some applicants reported experiencing problems while applying through the platform.

The civil service preliminary test will be place on May 25th. The number of slots to be filled through the exam is likely to be around 979, with 38 earmarked for people with physical disabilities.
