UMANG app : The Labour Ministry has announced that employees who are members of the retirement fund body Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) can now generate a universal provident fund account number (UAN) and related services using face authentication. Previously, it had to be generated by a company’s human resources department.
Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya claimed that the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has adopted expanded digital services for UAN allotment and activation through face authentication, paving the way for contactless, secure, and entirely digital service delivery to crores of members.
He claimed that employees can now generate UANs straight from the Umang Mobile App using Aadhaar Face Authentication Technology (FAT).

Any employer can use the same Umang App to produce UANs for new employees utilizing Aadhaar Face Authentication Technology (FAT).
UMANG app : Here is how to generate UAN.
To create UAN, an employee must first access the UMANG App and then complete the steps for UAN Allotment and Activation using Face Authentication. After Aadhaar-based verification, a UAN will be issued and transmitted by SMS to the cellphone number listed in the Aadhaar database.
After generating a UAN, the employee can download the card from the UMANG App or Member Portal. The new procedure has the advantage of providing 100% validation of Aadhaar and allowing users to employ Face authentication.
The minister went on to say that members who already have a UAN but have yet to activate it can now do so quickly using the UMANG App.
Biometric authentication utilizing Face Authentication is more secure than traditional approaches like demographic or OTP-based authentication.
This secure authentication will also pave the way for a wide range of self-service alternatives for members, decreasing the need for employer or Regional Office intervention in many future services.
