5 Days of Banking: The government has the authority to accept a proposal for bank staff in India to work five days per week. The Finance Ministry can approve a request to close bank branches for two days in December 2024. If this system is followed, banks will be closed every Saturday and Sunday. Banks are currently closed exclusively on Sundays, as well as the second and fourth Saturdays. This has the potential to be a significant milestone in the banking system. This is a key step towards improving the work-life balance of banking personnel. The Indian Banks Association (IBA) and staff unions have reached an agreement on this problem. For a long time, bank staff demanded 5-day work weeks.
If the government adopts this plan, bank staff will have Saturday and Sunday off. This will extend the working hours by 40 minutes per day. Banks are typically open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but this may soon alter to 9 a.m. to 5:40 p. However, some branches continue to open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
5 Days of Banking: Monday through Friday, banks will be open for an extra 40 minutes.

The Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the staff unions have achieved an agreement. Bank staff unions have stated that this will not result in reduced customer service hours. In addition, a suggestion has been made to expand working hours by 40 minutes. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in December 2023 between the IBA and bank unions representing public and private sector banks. Following this, on March 8, 2024, the IBA and the All India Bank Officers Confederation issued a joint statement providing information regarding working five days a week and weekend holidays.
