Ratan Tata : ‘Efforts value more than money’
“The guy did not have to stand outside the burning building, scared for his family. However, he did. He didn’t need to visit hospitals to assure victims like Manoj Thakur, a hawker injured outside Leopold Cafe following the 26/11 terrorist attack, that everything will be alright. “But he did it.”
“He appears to be an angel and talks the truth…He has changed so many lives, not just mine.”
These are only a handful of the stories of the Mumbai Terror Attacks victims, who were not only helped to rise from the ashes by Ratan Tata’s charitable initiative, but also to “rebuild their lives” from the ground up.

Significantly, the 26/11 attack had a huge influence on the heart of the nation, as well as on the hundreds of family who lost loved ones as a result of the tragic event. The attacks in many sites in Mumbai, particularly the terrorists’ continuous firing at the landmark Taj Hotel in Mumbai, resulted in the deaths and injury of numerous people, including guests and hotel staff. As a result, following the disaster, the Tata Group announced the establishment of the Taj Public Service Welfare Trust to assist families in dealing with the loss of loved ones.
Within two weeks of the siege’s conclusion, the charity, which was founded by Ratan Tata, then Chairman of Tata Sons, and RK Krishna Kumar, then Vice Chairman of Indian Hotel chains Company Ltd (IHCL), not only began providing relief to those affected by the incident (not just Taj employees, but anyone affected by the attacks), but also established a system to support and restore those recovering from such tragic events in the years to come.
The trust stated that, in addition to providing significant monetary compensation to the family of the employee who died in the 26/11 attack, the settlement included the continuation of the employee’s full last salary for life for the family and dependents, as well as complete responsibility for the education of children and dependents anywhere in the world.
The trust further stated that full medical coverage for the entire family and dependents would be supplied for the remainder of their life, and that all loans and advances made by decaying employees during their employment, no matter the amount, would be waived.
Additionally, the trust stated, “any relief and support were also provided to all those who sustained injuries and the relatives of all those who were killed, including railway employees, police officers, pedestrians, and vendors.” Aside from monetary compensation and healthcare assistance, the aid included the building of a psychiatric unit to counsel people in need. The club even took on the burden of educating 46 children of the terrorist attack victims.”
‘With you, a promise from yesterday, now, and tomorrow.
Similarly, amid the Mumbai terror incident, the Tata group (including Tata Steels and Tata Motors) upheld his moral objective by providing unconditional assistance as well as monetary incentives to the next of kin of Tata employees who lost during India’s COVID-19 outbreak.
According to a statement made by Tata Steel, the monthly remuneration of such personnel who perished during the epidemic will be the same as their previous income.
Furthermore, if any of its frontline personnel becomes infected while on duty and dies as a result of COVID-19, the firm would pay for “all the expenses of their children’s education until graduation in India,” according to the statement.
The organization has always been a steadfast pillar for its stakeholders. This time, however, nothing has changed. The Tata Steel family stands steadfastly by all of its employees, devoted to their safety and well-being,” it added.
