NCP: 600 individuals affiliated with Ajit Pawar’s NCP resign before the Maharashtra Assembly elections

NCP: On Tuesday, nearly 600 party employees and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders resigned from the Pune branch, handing Ajit Pawar a significant setback ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly election. The enraged employees were protesting the Governor’s refusal to appoint Pune City President Deepak Mankar as MLC. The development occurred on the same day that the Indian Election Commission released the state assembly election timetable.

Mankar’s supporters met at the NCP headquarters to announce their resignation

Mankar’s followers resigned on Tuesday evening at the NCP office in Pune’s Narayanpeth neighbourhood. Notable resignations included city vice presidents, assembly constituency chiefs, many cell heads, and party members.

Notably, the local unit had asked that Mankar be allocated one of the party’s three MLC seats available under the Governor’s quota. The NCP, on the other hand, chose to re-nominate candidates with political family ties. They also wrote a memorandum to Ajit Pawar, the party’s national president and Deputy Chief Minister, expressing their dissatisfaction.

They maintained that Mankar had cemented the NCP in Pune and hence deserved the MLC position. They stated that the snub would have a long-term impact on the party. According to their memorandum, the leaders hoped that Ajit Pawar will deliver justice to party workers. However, Deepak Mankar’s MLC seat was rejected, which shattered our trust.

Meanwhile, Datta Sagare, Vice President of the NCP Pune City, stated that “600 party staff members left their posts today in outrage after Pune City President Deepak Mankar was denied an MLC post from the governor’s allotment by our top leadership.”

Resigned from their positions,

“We resigned from our positions of power but will remain supporters of the party.” We are hoping that Ajit Pawar would bring us justice. Ajit Pawar is likely to visit Pune within the next two days, during which we will hand over our resignation. “Over 600 workers resigned today, and the number will likely go up to 2500,” he told reporters.

Another party member, Nilesh Shinde, said, “We hope our leader Deepak Mankar is given the opportunity to advance. He has been with the party since 2014 and has been active in politics for over four decades. He has the potential to strengthen the party cadre in Pune, but he has been repeatedly denied progress.”

However, the resigned office-bearers resolved not to communicate with the party’s coalition partners unless Pawar made a firm pledge. The Election Commission stated on Tuesday that the Maharashtra assembly elections will be held in one round on November 20 and counted on November 23.

The resigned officeholders have agreed not to work for the party’s coalition partners until Pawar makes a formal pledge.

The Indian electoral body announced on Tuesday that the Maharashtra assembly elections will be performed in just one round on November 20 and counted on November 23.

Seven MLCs took the oath

Seven MLCs were sworn in on Tuesday after the government issued a list of candidates from the ruling Mahayuti alliance. Three of the seven MLCs are from the BJP, with two from the Shiv Sena and two from the NCP. The NCP candidate list includes Idris Naikwadi and Pankaj Bhujbal, the son of former MLA Chhagan Bhujbal.
