Manmohan Singh : According to sources, the Centre will proclaim a 7-day period of national mourning in honour of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who died on Thursday at the age of 92. The former Prime Minister’s final rites will be held with full state honours.
All government programs scheduled on Friday have been postponed. and the Union Cabinet will meet at 11 a.m., according to sources.
When a time of national mourning is announced, the National Flag will be displayed at half-mast on all buildings where it is normally flown throughout India, and there will be no official entertainment on those days.

The Congress has also determined that all official party activities, including the Foundation Day celebration, will be cancelled for the next seven days and resume on January 3. The party’s flag will also be flying at half mast.

“All official programmes of the Indian National Congress, including the Foundation Day festivities, have been cancelled for the next seven days out of respect for the late former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh ji. This includes all of the agitation and outreach efforts. The party programmes will begin on January 3, 2025. KC Venugopal, Congress General Secretary (Organisation), tweeted on X that the party flag will be flown at half mast during this period of sorrow.
Manmohan Singh became Prime Minister twice
Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014, and he had previously served as Finance Minister under PV Narasimha Rao from 1991 to 1996. He is recognised with ushering in liberalisation in India in 1991, with one of the country’s most impactful Union Budgets.
