Hyundai Inster Cross: Hyundai recently unveiled the Inster e-SUV and, within months, debuted a robust model known as the Inster Cross. We reported last month that the car manufacturer is developing a rugged edition, and Hyundai claims that this feature would broaden the appeal of the compact electric SUV.
What is the Hyundai Inster?
The Inster is a compact electric SUV based on Hyundai’s ICE-powered Casper that competes globally in the inexpensive city EV market. It shares the majority of its underpinnings with the 3.5-metre-long Casper, which is currently only available in Korea with a petrol powerplant. Hyundai has stretched the Casper’s chassis by 230mm for the Inster, adding 180mm to its wheelbase. This enlargement provides greater cabin space as well as space for the underfloor battery pack.
What is typical about the Hyundai Inster Cross?
The Inster Cross has larger bumpers with integral skid plates, an original set of 17-inch alloy wheels, a new roof rack, and a distinctive Amazonas Green matte paint option. Inside, it is available with model-specific grey and yellow upholstery.

Hyundai Inster: Specifications and Technology
All models include two 10.25-inch LCD screens (one for the dashboard panel and one for the touch-screen touchscreen). You can use your smart phone as a ‘key’ to unlock and start the vehicle.

The Inster also comes with Hyundai’s full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as a 360-degree parking camera, adaptive cruise control, and a blindspot monitoring system that projects an image of the rear quarter from the camera onto the instrument panel when the indicator is turned on.
Hyundai Inster: battery pack and powerplant.
The Inster EV features two battery and motor options. Entry-level vehicles have a 96 horsepower front-mounted drive unit that achieves a 0-100kph sprint time of 11.7 seconds and a top speed of 140kph. It’s powered by a 42kWh battery pack with a claimed range of roughly 300km. The higher-spec ‘long-range’ Inster produces 113 horsepower, tops out at 150 kph, and takes 10.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph. It receives a larger 49kWh battery, extending its range to approximately 350km.
Hyundai Inster: India Release Strategy
Hyundai’s upcoming Creta EV will mark its foray into India’s mass-market EV industry. The Inster EV could appear later as a competitor to the Citroen eC3 and Punch EV.
