Shashi Tharoor commends Operation Sindoor in the United States, asserting that India responded with a “hard and intelligent” response to the Pahalgam terror attack .

Congressman Shashi Tharoor welcomed India’s Operation attacks on terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, saying that India ‘struck hard and smart’. During a statement in New York on Saturday, Tharoor, who is leading a multi-party delegation to five countries as part of India’s global anti-terrorism outreach under Operation Sindoor, emphasized India’s strong yet measured and calibrated response to the heinous Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.

India conducted a powerful and well-planned attack: Shashi Tharoor

Speaking at the Indian Consulate in New York, Tharoor said, “I’m not employed by the government. Within a few days, I published an opinion piece for one of India’s leading publications, arguing that it was time to strike forcefully and intelligently. I’m happy to report that India did just that. I work for an opposition party.

He described how precision and calculated strikes were carried out against “nine specific known terrorist bases, headquarters, and launchpads.” Those included the Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and the Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur, who were responsible for the murder of Daniel Pearl, among other things…”

‘…a obvious attempt to create community violence.

Tharoor claimed the attack was carried out by terrorists who identified victims based on their religion before executing them, in what he called an obvious attempt to incite communal conflict. “It was a bunch of individual going around identifying the religions of the individuals who stood before them and killing them on that basis, which was clearly intended to provoke a backlash in the rest of India, since the victims were overwhelmingly Hindu,” he said .

He used many instances from Indian society to demonstrate how people in Jammu and Kashmir, from politicians to civilians, came together in support. “There was an astonishing level of unity across religion and other barriers that people attempted to incite. The message is clear: there was malicious intent… India, unfortunately, had no reason to suspect where it came from.”

The Congress MP went on to say that within an hour, the Resistance Front claimed credit. He reminded the audience that this outfit is associated to the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba and had previously been reported to the UN in 2023 and 2024. “Sadly, Pakistan chose to follow its usual path of denial,” he said, stressing that Pakistan, with the support of China, was able to remove the reference to TRF from the UN Security Council press statement

We are not interested in going to war with Pakistan.

Tharoor stated unequivocally that while India has responded decisively to terrorism, it does not seek escalation or armed war. “We have no desire to engage in military conflict with Pakistan. We would prefer to be left alone to expand our economy and prepare our people for the world of the twenty-first century. But, unfortunately, while we may be a status quo power, Pakistan is not…they crave land controlled by India and will take it at any cost. If they can’t acquire it through normal channels, they’re willing to use terrorism, which is unacceptable…”

The all-party delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, includes Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayagi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, Bhubaneswar K Lata (all from the BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), and Taranjit Singh Sandhu, former Indian Ambassador to the United States.

The delegation will represent India’s national consensus and resolute stance against terrorism in all its forms. Throughout their outreach, they will convey India’s strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism to the global world.
