Tariff talks between the United States and India are proceeding, with a settlement expected by fall 2025.

United States President Donald Trump provided optimistic updates on trade negotiations with India, expressing hope that a deal might be struck shortly. In a statement released on Wednesday, Trump stated, “Talks with India on tariffs are going well, and I believe the two countries will reach an agreement.”

United States and India settlement Tariff expected by fall 2025.

The United States and India are actively pursuing “early mutual wins” in order to finalize major sections of their bilateral trade agreement (BTA) by the fall of 2025. Discussions have already started, with further in-person sectoral engagements scheduled for late May. According to official sources, the goal is to generate tangible results by September or October.

Following good virtual meetings, the Commerce Department announced that in-person talks slated for the end of May would not represent the commencement of negotiations, but rather the continuation of the existing discourse. The teams have already had extensive discussions about tariff and non-tariff concerns, with an emphasis on finding mutually beneficial solutions.

Though speculation had grown about the potential of a “early tranche” ahead of a 90-day suspension in reciprocal tariffs, the most recent update suggests that both countries are focused on achieving real results by Fall 2025.

This proactive approach to tariff discussions reflects both sides’ determination to advance trade ties and create economic cooperation in the coming months.
