IPL 2025: KL Rahul and Abishek Porel perform well as the Delhi Capitals defeat Lucknow Super Giants

In the ongoing IPL 2025, the Delhi Capitals defeated the Lucknow Super Giants by eight wickets. The hosts struggled with the bat, with only openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh rising to the occasion. Captain Rishabh Pant, who was bought for INR 27 crore in the mega-auction, was anticipated to take command of the batting, but he came at number seven and left without creating his account.

Lucknow scored 159 runs in the first innings in IPL 2025

Lucknow scored 159 runs in the first innings, thanks to Markram’s 52 and Marsh’s 45. Mukesh Kumar had an excellent day for Delhi, taking four wickets. Meanwhile, 159 was never enough, especially against a strong side like Delhi’s, and the visitors performed admirably, particularly Abishek Porel and KL Rahul, who each struck a half-century and helped them win the match.

Delhi had no issue pursuing 160 runs in IPL 2025

Delhi had no issue pursuing 160 runs and were highly composed in their approach. Porel was outstanding, scoring 51 runs off 36 balls. Following the contest, he emphasised the significance of capitalizing on the powerplay, which played a significant role in DC gaining momentum.

Abishek Porel stated

“I wanted to use the powerplay, that was the strategy; it was a large field, so the goal was to find the spaces. If it was in my zone, I planned to hit a six. We were discussing how it was only one or two overs, and we wanted to play as few dot balls as possible. So, the discussion with KL (Rahul) was that we could make up anytime and wanted to play the ball on its merits,” Porel stated after the game.

Following his dismissal, Rahul took over and scored an unbeaten 57 runs off 42 deliveries. He finished the game with a six, which may be interpreted as a statement against his old team for releasing him prior to the mega-auction.

Meanwhile, Axar Patel provided valuable support, scoring 34* runs off 20 balls. With the victory, Delhi earned their sixth win of the season and remained second on the points table, trailing only Gujarat Titans, who had a higher Net Run Rate.
