LAT couple : Do you two like living apart as a LAT couple? This is all about the expanding trend of relationships

LAT couple : In recent years, a new type of relational dynamic arose. It is referred to as Living Apart Together, or LAT. This refers to a couple being in a relationship while living in separate homes. This is comparable to the framework used by non-married couples who wish to live physically apart.

However, a new study undertaken by the University of Lancaster (United Kingdom) in collaboration with University College London discovered that living dynamics are beneficial for couples over the age of 60. The study found that living in separate houses is the key to older couples’ contentment.

According to a statement from the British University, while leaving a marriage might have a negative impact on mental health, living in various homes while enjoying the companionship of a marriage can benefit persons over the age of 60.

LAT couple : How can LAT help older couples?

According to the study, ending a marriage or cohabitation might have major implications for people’s mental health. When people decide to live in different residences, they are not required to spend all of their time together and can instead choose to be in a long-term relationship. This provides significance to the relationship.

According to Yang Hu, a Lancaster University professor and research co-author with Rory Coulter of University College London, “It is time we saw and recognised the power of intimate, often invisible, connections beyond the home to sustain the wellbeing of older adults.”

Staying under the same roof with your partner is sometimes socially imposed rather than a choice based on independence. As a result, living apart can help to build a more real connection built on choices and proximity. It has also been demonstrated to have a slower decline in mental health than estranged spouses who end their marriage.
