Sunil Gavaskar got angry at Yashasvi Jaiswal, stating, “Your job was to try…”

Sunil Gavaskar, the famous batsman, was not satisfied with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s shot choice during the first innings of the Brisbane Test. Jaiswal was removed on the second delivery he faced after playing a weak shot and was caught for only four runs off Mitchell Starc.

The left-handed player flicked the ball towards mid-wicket after scoring a boundary on the previous delivery, but this time he found Mitchell Marsh, who took an easy catch within the circle to send the Indian star back to the pavilion.

Gavaskar chastised Jaiswal for his poor shot selection early in the innings as India faced a massive total against Australia, who made 445 after being asked to bat first.

“This is not the best shot. If you’re facing 445 runs, I believe you should get your eye in. It wasn’t even a half-volley, and you tried to flick that ball away, but it’s an easy catch. Pat Cummins’ captaincy and field positioning are definitely excellent,” Gavaskar told ABC Sport.

The great hitter advised that Jaiswal’s role was to spend time at the crease and establish the groundwork for the others to follow, but he ended up playing a dismal shot and was dismissed in the first over itself.

“But that is hardly the shot you would anticipate from an opening batter, especially when your opponent has 445. Your job for that hour was to stay at the crease. “Jaiswal, you have disappointed me greatly,” Gavaskar responded.

Sunil Gavaskar continues, “You can’t anticipate to get 25 runs off the first over.”

Jaiswal sparred with Starc during the second innings of the Perth Test, in which he produced a ton, but since then, the Australian bowler has dismissed him twice, both times in the first over.

Gavsakar stated that being positive is one thing, but one must also be sensible, as he chastised Jaiswal for hitting a risky stroke despite scoring four on the first ball.

“Being positive is great. However, you must exercise caution, particularly when the ball is young. It is the first over, therefore you cannot expect to score 25 runs off it. That wasn’t even a half-volley. I would understand if it was a half-volley; sometimes you can’t keep it on the ground. “It was a length ball; you were never going to be able to keep it down,” Gavaskar explained.
