Piyush Goyal : 10 years of ‘Make in India’, employment opportunities in manufacturing have increased by 200 percent in the last two years

Piyush Goyal : On the tenth anniversary of the ‘Make in India’ project, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated that since its inception, mobile phone imports have decreased by almost 85 percent.

The minister noted in a social media post on Wednesday that prior to the commencement of the ‘Make in India’ program, the country’s mobile import in 2014-15 were Rs 48,609 crore, which will be reduced to Rs 7665 crore in 2023-24.

He also emphasised that manufacturing jobs in the country increased by 200 percent between 2022 and 2024. He further mentioned that 99 percent of mobile phones in the country are now manufactured in India.

Piyush Goyal said in a social media post on ‘X’

“Today commemorates the 10-year anniversary of #MakeInIndia, a revolutionary program announced by Prime Minister of India @NarendraModiji in 2014 that has transformed the manufacturing sector in India and boosted the economy.”Over the last decade, @MakeInIndia has evolved into a national power, opening the way for our country to become renowned as an International Industry Hub,” Goyal wrote in a social media post on ‘X’.

The Minister also emphasised the enormous influence of Make in India on the country’s industrial landscape. He remarked that the program is consistent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s objective of establishing ‘Brand India’ as a global symbol of innovation and quality.

He added that various transformative changes have been implemented over the last decade, including the groundbreaking Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) program, which focusses on critical sectors to improve manufacturing skills.

The administration has also made progress in enhancing the ease of doing business and attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), hence creating a favourable climate for enterprises to thrive.

Minister Goyal pointed out attempts to boost the startup environment and provide possibilities for employment.

“Dedicated measures have been made to improve the ease of doing business as well as attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), with the federal government working as an important catalyst to foster an advantageous atmosphere for businesses and investors” according to the statement.

In his remarks, Goyal also stated that Make in India has created a solid basis for the country’s journey to becoming a Viksit Bharat (developed India) by 2047, paving the way for future growth in industry and the economy.
