Donald Trump says he will be meeting Modi, the Indian prime minister, next week during his tour of the United States

Donald Trump : Former US President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week on the latter’s visit to America. The declaration came as Trump was lecturing on the India-US trade connection in Flint, Michigan, with less than 50 days till the US presidential elections in November, where the Republican nominee would face Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, who is of Indian descent.

Trump, on the other hand, has not revealed where the two leaders would meet. “He planned to meet with me the following week,” Trump said. “And Modi, he’s terrific.” From 2017 to 2021, Donald Trump and Narendra Modi maintained close ties, with events such as “Howdy Modi” in Houston and “Namaste Trump” in Gujarat.

Their collaboration boosted US-India relations significantly, particularly in defense and strategic cooperation, as both governments shifted their focus to fighting China’s expanding influence. Despite occasional economic disagreements, their alliance remained strong, with programs such as the “Quad” encouraging closer security collaboration. PM Modi has also maintained positive connections with Democratic presidents like as Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Last year, the White House threw out the red carpet for him, boasting defense and commercial deals.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the US
The Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Modi will visit the United States from September 21 to 23, where he will attend the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Delaware, the hometown of US President Joe Biden, on Saturday. India has agreed to host the next Quad Summit in 2025, according to the MEA.

Following the Quad Summit in Delaware with US President Joe Biden and counterparts from Australia and Japan on September 21, PM Modi will address a massive community gathering titled ‘Modi and US, Progress Together’ on September 22 at Long Island’s 16,000-seat Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Organizers say that around 25,000 individuals have applied for seats to the diaspora event. The Prime Minister would also meet with the CEOs of key US-based enterprises to encourage increased collaboration between the two countries in cutting-edge fields such as AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. He is also scheduled to connect with thought leaders and other stakeholders involved in the India-US bilateral relationship.

According to the most recent dates published by the United Nations, he will speak at the UN Summit of the Future on September 23, but will not address the UN General Assembly’s high-level meeting. This followed a revised list provided by the UN earlier this month, which confirmed Modi’s exclusion from the UNGA session.

According to the foreign ministry, the Prime Minister will also meet with CEOs of top US-based companies to encourage increased collaboration between the two nations in cutting-edge fields such as AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology.

Earlier in July, the UN provided a provisional list of speakers for the main meeting of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which included PM Modi’s name as one of those who would address the high-level discuss on September 26. However, according to an updated provisional list of speakers announced on Friday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is now scheduled to address the General Debate on September 28th.

Earlier this year, Trump met with other foreign leaders, including Hungary’s nationalist prime minister Viktor Orbán, whom he routinely praises in rallies, and Polish President Andrzej Duda, who once suggested naming a military station in his country “Fort Trump.”

Donald Trump also held a meeting with David Cameron

Trump also had a discussion with David Cameron, the British Foreign Secretary. Foreign leaders have said that talks with Trump are routine interactions with opposing figures.
